Recently, I traveled down to Newport, Kentucky to talk with artist and friend, and friend of Waste-Free Dayton, Devan Horton, about an upcoming multi-disciplinary art exhibition that opens on Thursday, April 17th at StudioKroner in downtown Cincinnati. All Else Pales: 2 “showcases five artists whose thought-provoking installations delve into themes of nature, ecology, and climate change.”

We held our first official litter cleanup of the year on the first day of March, after a couple of failed attempts at cleanups in January and February that were affected by weather. Since we took the month of December off, this was the longest stretch of time in which we didn’t have a cleanup since we started doing them four years ago! Needless to say, we were itching to get out and start picking up trash, and apparently so were our volunteers, as we had a total of 19 people come to help that day.

At our board and team meeting last week, we officially welcomed 3 new board members for 2025, Dawn Kirchner, Megan Moon, and Holly White.

Yesterday, on Small Business Saturday, we got to practice our sustainable gift wrapping at Skeleton Dust Records, doing free wrapping for gifts purchased there or at Pink Moon Goods. Hey everyone! I wanted to share with you all our amazing tour that we took at GoZERO’s composting facility up in Toledo last month. We have been using GoZERO composting services since February 10th, when we opened up our first free composting station at Pink Moon Goods (2027 E 5th St., Dayton). We also have a second station located at 2nd St. Market (600 E. 2nd St., Dayton). We love working with GoZERO because of the friendly service they provide and the fact that they accept all organic scraps, including meat, bones, dairy, and compostable cutlery and cups, which wouldn’t normally break down in backyard composting.
