One cleanup at a time, help us Make Dayton Shine

Litter Cleanups

Our first litter cleanup occurred on March 2, 2021 in the Historic Inner East. During that month we ended up doing four litter cleanups, and for some of those, we only had a couple of people. We continued holding organizing cleanups throughout that year, and we attended other organization’s cleanups. After we became an official nonprofit in the fall of 2021, since litter cleanups had become the primary activity for our community rejuvenation focus area, we would aim to do a least one per month. While we have had to skip a month here and there, we have averaged at least one per month since then, and as of November 2024, we have done 54 cleanups, picking up over 80,000 pounds of litter and debris.

It is commonly said that litter attracts litter. We may not solve the litter problem in the Dayton area, but we are in it for the long haul. First and foremost, we want to show neighborhoods that people do care. If you’d like to volunteer to participate in one of our litter cleanups, check our Events page, or follow us on Facebook or Instagram where we advertise our cleanups (usually 2 weeks in advance).

Together, we can make Dayton shine, and work towards a healthier and more sustainable future.
